Yes, you can customize this strawberries and cream overnight oats recipe to suit your dietary requirements. To do so, you can make the following substitutions:

how to make This recipe?

Oats:
  1. To a bowl (or directly into the jar you will be storing your overnight oats in) add the oats, protein powder, sweetener, and shredded coconut. Mix everything together so that it is incorporated.
  2. Roughly chop the two strawberries and add them, along with the milk into the same bowl. Mix everything again, so that no dry ingredients or powder remains. Set aside.
Yoghurt topping:
  1. In a separate small bowl, mix the yogurt and protein powder together.
  2. Place the yogurt topping on top of your oats mixture if you will be storing the oats in that bowl. If not, spoon your oats into a jar and then spoon the yogurt topping over it.

Cover and place in the fridge overnight (or for a minimum of 4 hours). Then, in the morning (or after 4 hours), remove from the fridge.

White Chocolate Topping:
  1. Add the white chocolate spread and milk into a small bowl and microwave for 10 – 15 seconds.
  2. Mix them together until smooth.
  3. Drizzle the white chocolate mixture over the yogurt layer and enjoy!

Additions/ Toppings:

Chia Seeds:

You will notice that this strawberry overnight oats recipe does not include chia seeds. I have not included chia seeds for one reason and one reason only – because although many do, there are also many people who don’t have chia seeds just lying around. BUT if you do have chia seeds on hand, then I do highly recommend adding in a tsp of chia seeds into the oats (along with an extra tbsp of water).

Other suggestions:

  • Flax seeds
  • Yogurt
  • Almonds
  • White or Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Sliced Banana
  • A tsp of Cottage Cheese (for additional protein)
  • Almond Butter
  • Crushed Biscuit (on top)

FAQ:

Can I Use Frozen Strawberries in Overnight Oats? Yes, you can use frozen strawberries! In fact I generally use frozen strawberries when I make this recipe. I add them straight into the mixture as if I were making the recipe with fresh strawberries. They thaw overnight while in the fridge, and taste just as great in the oats the next morning!

Can I Use Any Type of Oats? Technicallyyy speaking, yes. BUT rolled oats will always work best for overnight oats because of how absorbent they are. They also create the creamiest and least chewy texture as opposed to steal cut oats which stay very chewy. Instant oats on the other hand I wouldn’t really recommend because they become overtly soft and mushy very quickly.

How Long Can I Store Strawberry Overnight Oats in the Fridge? You can store this overnight oats in the fridge for up to 3-5 days. Make sure that your container is airtight so that the oats stay fresh and that no unwanted odor can enter the container (which can impact the flavors).

Can I Sweeten Strawberry Overnight Oats Without Sweetener? To sweeten your strawberry overnight oats without using sweetener, you can use honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, spotty mashed bananas, or any granulated sugar.

How Must I Store This Overnight Oats? Store your overnight oats in a sealed container, jar, or bowl covered with plastic wrap in the fridge overnight (or for a minimum of 4 hours).

How Can I Make My Strawberry Overnight Oats Creamier? To make your overnight oats creamier, you can use 1/2 the amount of milk the recipe calls for and use Greek yogurt in place of the other half. Stirring in a spoonful of nut butter will also add to the richness and creaminess of the oats.
